Who We Are
Cumberland Bail Bonds has been writing bonds in Tennessee since 1991. We are family owned, licensed and insured, and we have spent three decades working the same courthouses and jails our clients find themselves in.
That longevity is the whole advantage. Our agents know the booking clerks, the paperwork, and the sequence a release has to follow in each county. It is usually the difference between somebody going home the same night and somebody waiting out a weekend in a cell.
Nobody plans on needing a bail bondsman. When the call has to be made, most people are frightened, embarrassed, and working with bad information. Our job is to pick up, explain what is actually happening, tell you honestly what it costs, and get moving. No judgment and no lecture. Everyone here has taken this call about their own family at some point.
Every agent writing under our name is individually licensed and approved for the counties they work in. That is not a formality. Approval is county by county in Tennessee, and it is the reason we can cover nineteen of them rather than working out of one office.

How a Bail Bond Works in Tennessee
The court sets bail
A judge or magistrate sets an amount meant to guarantee the defendant returns. Tennessee law requires it be set no higher than necessary, weighing the charge, community ties and any risk to the public.
You call an agent
Rather than finding the court's full amount yourself, you pay a licensed agent to post the whole bond on your behalf. Your agent tells you your exact figure on that first call.
The bond is exonerated
Provided the defendant makes every court appearance, the bond is released at the end of the case and the obligation ends. Missing a date starts a forfeiture, which is why we stay in contact.

What is a bail bond?
When a court sets bail, that amount has to reach the court before the defendant can be released. A bail bond is a surety a licensed agent posts on the defendant's behalf, guaranteeing the full amount to the court. Rather than finding the whole sum yourself, you pay a licensed agent to carry that risk for you.
How much does a bail bond cost in Tennessee?
Every bond is different. The court sets the bond amount based on the charge and the history behind it, and what you pay follows from that figure. Call us and your agent tells you your exact number on the first call, before you commit to anything. No hidden fees and no surprises later.
Is what I pay refundable?
No. What you pay is the fee for writing and posting the bond. It is earned once the bond is posted and is not returned when the case concludes, whatever the outcome. That is standard for every licensed bail agent in Tennessee, not something particular to us.
Who is responsible for the bond?
The defendant, and whoever signs as indemnitor, the co-signer. The co-signer guarantees the defendant appears at every court date. If the defendant does not appear, the co-signer can be responsible for the costs of recovery and potentially for the full face value of the bond. We go through that document with you before anything is signed.
How long is a bail bond valid?
The first twelve months are covered by the original agreement. If a case runs past that, Tennessee law allows the bond to be renewed, and your agent tells you what that means for you before anything changes. Most cases resolve well inside the first year.
When does the bail bond process start?
On your first call. We confirm who is in custody and where, check the charge and the bail amount, and tell you your exact figure. Once the paperwork is signed and payment is settled, our agent goes to the jail and posts the bond.
What is a bail hearing?
A hearing where a judge or magistrate sets or reviews the bail amount. Under TCA § 40-11-118 the court is required to set bail no higher than necessary, weighing the charge, the defendant's ties to the community, their record, and any risk to public safety. If bail is set higher than a family can manage, a defense attorney can ask the court to reconsider it.
Where can I get a bail bond?

What are your hours of operation?
Agents answer 24 hours a day, every day of the year, including holidays. The main office keeps regular business hours, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, for paperwork and in-person visits.

All major credit and debit cards, and cash. Payment can be handled over the phone, online, or in person at any staffed office.
