The cost of a bail bond is a non-refundable fee of 10% of the total amount of the bail itself. For example, a bail of $1,000 will require at least $100 from the defendant or a family member or friend that posts the fee on their behalf. These fees are established and regulated by the Department of Insurance and the local courts.
The Indemnitor (co-signer) is financially liable for the bail bond. The indemnitor’s liability is limited to the full face value of the bail bond.
Once the bail bond is posted and accepted by a court or jail, liability is taken on the bail bond. At that point, the bail bond premium is fully earned and is not refundable.

The defendant’s bond is a promise made by them that they will return to stand trial after release from jail in response to charges brought against them. The bail process will end when the defendant appears for the court hearing. Then, the bond is terminated.
A bail hearing occurs after a defendant is arrested, and it’s the first step in determining whether or not they are going to be released from jail. The judge will usually decide if you’re going to stay locked up for days, weeks or even months before your trial begins based on how much risk there is that you’ll run away. If the judge thinks there’s enough evidence against you, he/she might deny your bail altogether so that no one can help pay for your release.
A bail bond (surety bond) is a financial guarantee to the court that the defendant will appear in each and every court appearance as the court directs. Failure of the defendant to comply with the conditions of the court could result in warrants issued and bail bonds forfeited.
The bond is good until the case is closed or the charges are dropped.
